What insurance buys you on each platform
BetterHelp
In-network with “125+ health plans” according to BetterHelp’s insurance page. Availability depends on your state, plan, deductible and whether an in-network therapist is free.
Copay: As low as $15 for eligible members; some pay $0 (BetterHelp’s figure, based on members who have a copay).
Limits: Insurance covers one live session per week. Messaging is a subscription-only feature.
Talkspace
In-network with most major plans, including Medicare and TRICARE, according to Talkspace.
Copay: $10 average copay and “many people pay $0” (Talkspace pricing guide, April 2026).
Limits: Copays apply after any deductible. Coverage is confirmed during sign-up.
Online-Therapy.com
Does not take insurance directly. Provides itemized receipts so you can ask your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement.
How to check your coverage in five minutes
- Log in to your insurer’s member portal (or call the number on your card) and find your outpatient mental health copay and deductible.
- Start the platform’s sign-up questionnaire. BetterHelp and Talkspace both check eligibility during sign-up.
- Before your first session, confirm the therapist is in-network for your plan, not just for your insurer.
- After the first claim, read your explanation of benefits to see what was billed.
If none of them take your plan
- Employee Assistance Program: many employers pay for a few free sessions a year.
- HSA or FSA: BetterHelp and Talkspace both accept these.
- Out-of-network reimbursement: Online-Therapy.com gives itemized receipts you can submit yourself.
